Now that we have seen the meaning behind the words, POST HOC, ERGO PROPTOR HOC, what else can we say about this line Dialogue used by Sheldon, when he spoke to his mother?
As discussed in part 2, it is not a repudiation of Religious Faith. That is because Religious Faith and the Scientific Method are two separate subjects, and have different rules that apply to each. In other words, you cannot Judge the validity of one, by subjecting it to an analysis using the standards required by the other.
In the last post, I pointed out how some people of Faith, attack Logic and the Scientific Method as being Anti-Religion or Anti- God. This is done by asserting Personal Beliefs, as representative of all forms of Religious Faith.
This is an Invalid Line of Reasoning, and is at the very least, highly offensive to those who are able to keep Religion out of the realm of Science and Logic. They realize that they are not one and the same.
However, there are those from the other side, who argue that Science and Logic disprove any basis for a belief in a Supreme Being. They are making the same type of Invalid Judgments that are claimed against religious zealotry.
The reason? God and any form of Supernatural Belief, exist outside the realm of the Natural World. They cannot be proved or disproved by the Scientific Method and the Rules of Logic.
You cannot prove that something exists or doesn't exist, by using methods that are not designed to analyze what defines the subject you are evaluating.
PUT MORE SIMPLY, YOU CANNOT JUDGE THE REALITY OF THE SUPERNATURAL, BY USING TOOLS THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE TO FIND INFORMATION AND CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE REALITY OF WHAT OCCURS IN NATURE, OR THE PHYSICAL UNIVERSE.
