As the National Election Approaches, it seems that SOME LEADERS IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAVE DECIDED THAT SUPPORTINGTHEIR CANDIDATE, DONALD TRUMP, IS NEITHER A WISE, NOR A DESIRABLE POSITION TO TAKE.
However, what Progressives must realize is that just because Certain Prominent Republicans, along with a Percentage of the Party Membership, now considers Candidate Trump to be an UNFIT AND/OR UNDESIRABLE CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT, DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS ASCENDANCY TO THE TOP OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAVE GIVEN UP GETTING HIM ELECTED. Failing that, looking for ways to use MR. TRUMPS CAMPAIGN AS A RALLYING POINT TO SALVAGE MANY OF THE ITEMS THAT MAKE UP THE REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM.
To stop either of these Scenarios from becoming Reality, Progressives must avoid any feelings of Complacency, and see DONALD TRUMPS RHETORIC, AND CAMPAIGN STRATEGY, FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS:
A REFLECTION OF THE VALUES, MORES, AND ETHICAL STANDARDS THAT ARE FOUND AMONG DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. (BUT, BY NO MEANS ALL, OR EVEN THE MAJORITY OF IT.)
The Elements of the GOP that has Emerged as the POWERS THAT BE WITHIN THE PARTY ITSELF, ACHIEVED THAT POSITION BY TAPPING INTO, AND GIVING A VOICE TO THOSE IN THE PARTY WHOSE ATTITUDES ABOUT THE LEGAL SYSTEM, CIVIL RIGHTS, THE CONSTITUTION, AND ECONOMIC THEORY ARE BASED UPON SPECIFIC PRINCIPLES. THESE PRINCIPLES MAKE THEM, AND ONLY THEM, THE SOLE JUDGES OF WHAT IS RIGHT OR WRONG, GOOD OR BAD, AND WHICH BEHAVIORS, LIFE CHOICES, AND SYSTEMS OF FAITH SHOULD BE TOLERATED, AND PROTECTED.
